About 1:30 in the afternoon as the rain slackened Confederate skimishers moved forward across
One of the skimishers (on the far side) notices Federal troops in the woods.
The Federal skimishers clear the trees and start firing.
Both sides send runners back and call up reinforcements.
The 64th Ga. arrives on the field.
Beliving there to be calvary in the area the 64th Ga. forms a square.
Shots are exchanged with the Federal skimishers.
The souuthern artillery moves forward.
And prepares to fire.
They send a volley into the trees at the end of the field.
The first of the Union Regiments advances out of the trees.
The 1st Federal (7thCt?) take poistion on the Union right of the field alone.
The 2nd Federal takes position n the Federal left and begins firing. Union cannons are moved up.
The 2nd Federal reloads.
More confederates move forward. Including the 19th Ga. on the Confederate right.
The full Confederate line begins to fire.

The Confederate lines advances across the field.

Do to the rain the smoke hangs on the field obscuring the more distant units on both sides.
The 2nd Federal hold s firm. The 1st Federal is hidden in the smoke.
As firing intensifies smoke obscures all but the closest units.

The wind picks up driving the smoke back and the 1st Federal still stands.
The Confederates advance again.
And resume firing.

Federal artillery has been moved forward but the gunners driven of by confederate fire.

The 2nd Federal advances.
As well as the 1st Federal.
Volleys are nowexchanged at close range.
The confederate fire slackens as they run out of ammo.
only sporadic fire remains from thir lines.
Yet they hold waiting for more ammo to be brought from the rear.
Federal forces are also running low on ammo.

Confederate forces begin firing again.
The entire line has been resupplied now.

The Federal units have pulled back being outnumbered and taking lots of fire. The 1st Federal takes position to cover the retreat.
Reduced in numbers the 1st Federal protects the retreat.
The Confederates move forward to thier final position.
