Tv Tropes | | [26-Apr-2011]
TV Tropes will be a very important site for the Scion game. |
Wiki Changes | | [09-Jul-2010]
Changed the wiki I put of for Kris's dead werewolf game so it can be used for a lot of games in the future. It now has separate tables for each game and cookies and redirects so pages can be duplicated without cross contaminating the games. Created a Spirit of Myth wiki there for my Scion game and started some of the templates. The plan is to only add places and faces as the game goes on and have the players create a lot of the info. All this is under the Tallahasseewerewolf.com domain.
So far there are 2 wikis one for Ron's Dresden game and one for my Spirit of Myth game. |
Character Creation | | [20-May-2010]
Except for the supernatural powers and maybe items on the birthrights page the character creation is done. |
Working on it. | | [04-May-2010]
Im working on it. Did several pages of the character creation yesterday. Merged #11 and 12 on the Hero list into #11 There are auspicious rumors about the character. |
Major changes to Scion/Heroes game | | [28-Sep-2009]
After playing with the Spirit of the Century rules at Dragoncon this year I ordered a copy. Ive got it now and finished reading it. I will be converting the scion game to those rules. The can be found online Here. The important part to read is about aspects. Character creation will follow my own model, I have finished the worksheet for the character creation process, details will come soon. |
Intellectus | | [01-May-2009]
The latest Dresden book had a concept that is good for the gods.
Most of this is quoted:
Intellectus, a mode of existance for a very few rare and powerful beings. All reality exists in one piece, one place, one moment, and they can look at the whole thing. They dont seek or acquire knowledge. They just know things. They see the entire picture.
Its not being omniscient. A being with Intellectus has to be focused on something in order to know it, whereas an omniscient being knows all things all the time. |
Not Dead | | [26-Jan-2009]
This is not dead. I am thinking about it. Just got distracted for a few months by an election, some flooding and change of hours at the job. |
Behind the scenes | | [18-Jun-2008]
Ive done a lot of work this week on the backend. I kept putting it off, insisting that i didnt want a huge database for this game but i finally did it. its so much easier to make and edit gods now. Ive cleaned up a lot of the pages so the links go to consistant pages now, all in the database. Can add all the info on the display gods page with a few clicks now.
As far as gods go im about done with research and have started making changes that just seem good for game. I may add a few extra gods to flesh out the everyone comes from a really old source. The only sources without present gods are Sawel, Menot , Shamash, Yareh, Animal Mistress, and Hadad. I can add Apollo (shamash), Diana (menot), Artemis (animal mistress), Baal (Hadad) and be left with only 2. Sawel shows up as a secondary for a number of gods. Might just have to drop Yareah.
Added a few sources, Welnos, and the Celestial Pet. |
Game System | | [11-Jun-2008]
I think i have found a game system for the Scion game. I think we will be using FUDGE. I wanted system with some randomness and dice but nothing like whitewolfs and not the stright diceless of Amber. I think FUDGE will work fine. More details as i work them out but right now im thinking:
No specified attributes.
Attributes start as Fair.
Free levels = 1/2 number of attributes taken (and raised).
Skills: 50 free levels. Max 2 Supurb, 6 Greats
Purchased skills start at Poor (so the lowest the character can have is Mediocre)
Players get 2 raises to each primary attribute or skill of their parent
Players get 1 raise to each secondary attribute or skill of their parent.

Lots of Stuff | | [30-Apr-2008]
- Reversed the log so newer is at the top
- Did a basic chracter creation outline. At this point any one who wants to play should do Step 1 the Birth of a Hero. Dont worry if you dont have all 10 points.
- Most the gods are done down through Odin for #1. I am working on the others in the list.
- There is a white wolf style character creation on page 2 of the character creation. This is still a work in progress.
It is a blend of Scion: Hero and Adventure.
- As requested i am working on age/military service/college for character creation. See This page based on the Traveler system.
- Tied to that is a list of all the military actions the U.S. did in the 15 years before game started.
- Miskatonic University will be a real place. It is an Ivy league school located in Arkham, MA. They will have an extensive occult library. Cthulu is not the mascot and his worshipers do not roam the halls. Its not that kind of world. It is home to the National Museum (formerly of Marshall College, CT. Also fictional). The National Museum is know for its collection of relics. It has branches in NY and D.C. It is under the curatorship of Marcus Brody Other notables include Dr. Henry Armatige the chief librarian, and Professor of Archeology Henry Jones.

Legend | | [02-Apr-2008]
Relized that the gods legend = survey points. |
NPC Scions, Relics and Quarks | | [26-Feb-2008]
Did most the work for Alexander the Great, Tarzan, and Captain Nemo as example NPC Scions. The provided most the information to build my variant of Lord Raglans Scale. As it stands now Heroes need 10 out of 15 on the scale to be viable characters.
Other descisions: Characters will only have knacks, not Perviews. Preview type powers will come from Relics. Relics will have 3 levels of powers. The greatest will function if the Scion is a child of the person associated with the relic. Each will have a lesser effect if it associated with the same god, but a different person and a much less or no effect if its a different god and different person. An Example: Mercury gives his son a set of winged sandals. In the hands of any Scion of Mercury they allow the character to fly. In the hands of any Scion of any other Son-consort person it allows the Scion to fall, from any height and not be injured. In the hands of a Scion of another god (say Great Mother), the sandals are pretty god foot protection for walking.
Since Scions wont have Perviews I think I am going to give them quarks from their parent. Something to differentiate them from other Scions of other persons. Scions of Mars are all reincarnated and must have past lives. Scions of Thor all have red hair, Scions of Zeus are all hated and hunted by Hera.
Did a lot of background research on a possible adventure hook The Cursed Mummy. This has ties to one of the potential characters, at least 3 Persons and in the right time period and feel. |
WWII | | [28-Dec-2007]
After talking with Preston last night and Roberto today I think the setting for any game may be WWII or earlier, think the Indiana Jones pulp era vs the Nazis leading into the war. This gives me some better options for getting all the diverse characters together and making them work with each other (draft). Elder Scions at the general level can provide resources when needed. This makes it easier to have a world wide scope but still have control. Governments can cover up weird stuff. The time also lets me have the diverse gods working against each other but not on a pantheon vs pantheon basis (Odin and Ares want WWII, Zeus is sitting on the sidelines like at Troy, The Gods of the book are dead against it). |
Gods list | | [09-Dec-2007]
Gods list | The list on the side of gods, and more specificly the active persons on the Gods page are pretty solid now for which ones I will be using. Ive done a lot of back end work to start putting stuff in the database rather than on static pages.
Im going to take some of the standard Christian terminology and use it. The big guys (Great Mother, Shining Father) are Gods. The little ones derived from them (Athena, Zeus) are Persons (ie. Father, Son, Holy Spirit). Persons can have different manifestations, Athena shows up as the Goddess of Wisdom in armor but also as Nike.
In the descriptions of the persons Im going to try and cover all their classical elements as well as the modern perceptions, and make them rather broad, for instance Ares is no longer just a War god but a god of all the horrors and crimes associated with war also |
Harsesis, thank you Stargate | | [15-Nov-2007]
Ive known that El in one of his manifestations was going to be the bad guy because of what he did with his scion about 2000 years ago. I just wasnt clear what he did. I think I figured it out now.
According to the Gospel of James, Anne (Hannah in Hebrew) and her husband Joachim (Eli in other sources), after years of childlessness, were visited by an angel who told them that they would conceive a child.
Eli the other name for Annes husband is a variant of El in Hebrew. The i suffix indicates first person singular possession, my El or my God. Anne was quite old when this happened. Anne promised to dedicate the child to God's service. Mary was conceived without the original sin, through a gods power. There is also the belief that has resurfaced at times that Anne conveived Mary via the Holy Spirit (possibly a remnant of Ashereth, Els wife), or that Mary was also a virgin birth. All this adds up to Mary being a Scion in game terms.
Mary is clearly identified with the Great Mother later, and was possibly adopted by her as her Scion rather than Els. Her perpetual virginity (Eastern orthodoxy) matches that of Hera who refreshes hers in a spring. She is also the mother of a ressurecting God.
Next El causes Mary to conceive and give birth without miraculously without sexual intercourse or male seed in any form. So her child meets the game definition of Scion also. What happens when a Scion who has risen to a manifestation of a god has a Scion? You get something similar to the Stargate concept of Harsesis. A forbidden entity. Fate intervenes and we have the problem of the next 2000 years where the gods can not interfere with the world.
By the way I think one of the major figures of Stargate is a Scion pushing the Legend of the old gods at just the right time for the change. Hes probably a Scion of an Egyptian god. As well raising the Legend he introduces the Harsesis concept, and the evil Priors, all which fit very well ing ame terms for what I plan on doing.

More on the Gods | | [14-Nov-2007]
Ive finalized the starting gods. The big forms that degenerate into what we know today. I made a few decisions. I dropped the fertility goddess from both the PIE and PS pantheons. I think in both cases she is really my Great Mother. Welnos also got dropped from the PIE. Too much I read about his decendant forms makes me think he isnt a PIE but a Great Serpent/Son-Consort mix. I decided to keep Neptonos after finding the root of the word really means nephew or grandson. That made him a part of the PIE family instead of some other tag along and he fits so much better now.
One thing that has given me real problems are the origin of Mercury, Odin and Loki. Im not finding a lot of info and the Psychopomp and Trickster archtype dont fit into either great pantheon. I may just have to add them as extras. I have to have them since they are near the top of my survey list.
Then there is the Egyptian problem. They keep showing up on the list but their history is so confused and messy. Ra for instance. Hes old, like 2nd dynasty but doesnt seem to be the PS sun god. Hes on his own, like a lot of the other Egyptians; Set (desert) and Anubis (Underworld). Bast can be the Great Mother or Sun maiden, Isis and Osiris are obviously GM and Son-consort o they fit. Maybe I will have to have an Egyptian family like the PIE and PS that arrived earlier and didnt spread. Some more research into the Ennead and Ogdoad might help. Maybe the Egyptians are little rabble that came and attracted the attention of the big PS and PIE. Little fry like that can help with odd gods, but not my Trickster/Psychopomp problem.
That only leaves the just as messy Indian gods, which if Im lucky will drop off the list before I have to worry about them. Shiva is the highest at 4/10. I may make just below half the cut off so hopefully the next few people wont list him or the other Indians. |
Survey Menu | | [14-Nov-2007]
The survey menu is the results of a survey where I asked list 20 gods to a number of people. These people needed not to have too much experience with D&D or Classical literature. I was looking for the average person. The number is the number of people who named that god. Links go to the god itselfs page or the general gods page depending on weather I have started work on it. These will be the most likely canidates for use in the game. All his is automated so as I survey more people and add their data to the main list it auto updates the page. No you can not participate, you have already read the list on the side and been tainted. |
Experience/Powers | | [05-Nov-2007]
Talked with Craig Sat about this for several hours. I think that experience/power point regen will be done by player vote. At the end of each session each player will rank the other players 1-5 (or however many there are). I will add them all togeather and the player with the highest ranking gets the most xp, the second a little less ... So the way to abuse this is everyone vote the same everyweek with a collective agreement everyones total will end of the same and so everyone gets the same xp. |
Watching too much TV | | [02-Nov-2007]
So while I was in New York there was a show on the history channel about Ancient Egypt, the stars and time. See the Sothic Cycle. The basic idea is that Egyptian civilization really starts their calendar when Sirius was first visible at Abydos (it wasnt before due to precession) about 10,500 B.C. Everything after that, great festivals, timing and location of the pyramids is based on the 1460 year cycle of the 365 days year and the cycle of when Sirius rises just before the sun on the vernal equinox.
This is great for game. I just have to fix it some. Counting back from 2012 (we all know the world ends then) we get apr 9668 or 11128 B.C. Not good enough. going to have to fudge some history for the game. Other dates arnt great either, counting up from 10,500 but i might make it work somehow. |
