Australian naming conventions appear to be a mess. This is largrly in part becuase they inherited ships from the British and previous colonial navies (Victorian, Queensland etc.), they continued to receive ships from the UK for decades afterwards.  They also requesitioned many civilian ships during WWII and commissioned them under thier existing names.
