Used the dfhack deepembark -depth CAVERN_1 so wil start in the caverns. Picked a pretty random spot with all 3 wanted minerals. The surface didnt really matter, but we are straddeling a warm grassland and badlands area. Was below a light aquifer. Going with the Carnal tombs for Deep Embarks, who are according to legends a fallen civ. Picking the Annoted Craftlords embark, becasue everything different.

Winter
We are the last surviors of a dead civ starting a new home. We dont even have a wagon all the supples are in pile. Spot doesnt look bad, it slopes down to the west and thee is water to he east. Looks easy to secure. First we dont have a pick. Used the gabbro we brought along to build a smelter to smelt the coal and ore into bronze Meanwhle organized the supples, corralled the animals and chopped some trees. Got the plump helmet farm started. Smelted some coke and made some brozne. Slaughted the yaks, kept the hides and meat. Forged 6 picks, a spear and another axe. Had to fight off a gorlak and a hed of troglodyes. Lostt the jeweler. Engraver somewhere also picked up a cave croc kill. Started sealing off an area and clearing it of pillars. Buit a capentershop for he beds and buckets (need a well).Restricted everyone to a burrow so they would stop running all over, Lost the weapon smith and had one guy webbed. Year 247
Summer
several picks and spear and the axe were never built, because the weapon smith died, no wonder things are slow. A bunch of trog dropped right into the middle of things. down to two dwarves. Abandoned.


Dudes skill set was useless. Every dwarf had to be changed to make anything work, great they might make artifacts someday, not if they dont survive to get to that point.

Summer
Looking for the other survivors but started on the surface. The other emabrks stuff is scatted all across the desert.
Fall
Its only been a few weeks, no depot dont care if the trader comes. Started working on a water reactor.
Winter
Reactor and millstone up. First pit smasher up. Drinks being made and plump helmets produced for food. Year 249
Fall
Multiple migrant waves so far. Tryig to encrust furtiure but its a pain in the ass. Merchants brought both a reindeer bull and cow, we are now reindeer herders. Farmers want a guild hall. Concentrating on improving defenses, including internal ones. Found some of the bodies of the past expedition.
Winter
Found limonte, its of course right in the middle of the new farms guildhall.

Year 250
Spring
Position vastle improved. Multiple gates, 2 drop pits, cage traps ready. Outer walls us and moat dug. started work on exterior tavern.
Summer
Tavern is working. Exterior walls first levels up. working or fortifcations.
Fall

Winter
The enemy have come and are laying siege to the fortress. Undead. Pulled the outer gate lever jsut in time a Prairierings was on the bridge and flipped into the air. Satified that the outer walls are secure. Abandoning them to draw the undead into our traps. There are only 10 of them. Elimianted 5, captued one the last 4 retreat. I dont think the defenses are adequate for a horde. Dont like having to fall back either. Need to rework things so make them more robust. Millstone keeps stopping. Actually its the waterwheel and pumps.

Digging a new entrance tunnel with a lot more traps and pits.

Year 251
Spring
started steel production. Bult some lovely jail cells. A werebuffalo. Its already inside the main gate. Both the potentials became werebuffalo. Ones my manager might just lock him in a room with a chair. The other is a gem cutter.
Summer
Werebuffalo manager has been put to work. The other guy will be locked in one of the smashing pit a a surprise.
Fall
Gemencrusting doing better now that there are distonct stockpiles gving and taking and the tak far away from te jewelrs. New pits are up and ready. Werebuffalo jeweler climbed out of one and returned to the hospital.
Winter
Started producing steel armor. Opne dthe new entrace to the world. First test of the new system, a werezebra. and it completly failed. Zebra was on the main bridge when discovered. Attacked the swarves coming out of the tave and never entered the maze. Meanwhile a doctor went insane and people started fighting with the liason. looks like only on potential werezebra victim. OF Del will be confined. We clearly need a better watch system. Building some real cells for the werebeasts to get them out of the hospital.

Once again crossbowmen fail. 10 guys, 2 are supposed to be patroling, 1 training, not a single one one duty. Set the werebeasts to detaling thier own cells. Confined the weavers to a burrow with food, drink, work and bedrooms.

Year 252
Summer
Craftsdwarves want a hall. A werelizard. At least the gaurd dog found it much further out now. 2 dead 2 potenital. Would have help if someone would have pulled a lever. Only one of the two turned into a werelizrd, of course forgot to confine him because the stupid doctors took their time diagnosing and cleaning. He slaughtered 19 i the main hall before being taken down. 3 total infected. All contained. Discovered the reason no one was patrolling the walls, they couldnt get o them after the tavern star was closed off from them. Put in a new stair. Much beter, patrols started immedatly.

Putting in the final obstacle a dropping cealing. Undead are here. Undead found a way up the walls. Abandoning the surface. The brought over a hundred. Lets hope the maze works since military is very weak. Three beasts rushed past the traps after failing to get to the turkey bait and were stopped in the main hall. Mazepit traps are doing much, they take to loong to activate. need to be longer. There is a hole in the roof of the mechanism room for the millstone and waterwheel. It allowed a goblin inside.Hole plugged. Down to about 50 undead. First hall of traps is pretty much destroyed.
Winter
Undead continue to slowly get chewed up by the maze. Down to 16 plus two in cages. Opened the main gates. It looks like all the undead left are so wounded they cant move. The liason made a break for it and is being chased by a bowman left on the surface. Had to go into the maze and clear the last remannts out by hand. Migrants arrived just in time to clean up.

Spring
Cleanup. Eliminating the werebeasts. Reorgazined the levers inside the panic room.
Fall
Repairs to maze done. Smashers/Pit lengthened. Levers moved. Spot n wall where they could climb fixed. Rework the tavern and walls entrance so the walls are isoalted
Winter
ent dwarves out to reclaim metal objects for melting.

Year 254
Spring
The undead are back. Wea re ready. I think. Pull the #$#@$#@$ levers! Lost 6 of the 10 steel armored military because no one would pull a lever, despite having plenty of time. They sent a number of Night's Nightmares, Eye of Prairerings and other experiments that avoided the traps. Stupid dwarves wont pull levers in a timely fashion. There are over 200 of them. The entire crossbowan squad died trying to get more bolts because the bolts where in the trade zone. Turtled the fort to clean up the main hall.
Summer
Gates still closed and cleanup goes on. Waiting for all own own bodies to be collected. Opening the gates but the weapon traps are almost gone. They are doing a good job of trampling the grass but wont come inside except one by one to test things.
Fall
Ordered dwarves to build a wall to totaly seal the maze. That seems to have trigged to goblins to enter finally.
Winter
Aftre having destroy some 20 undead the game crashed. The undead are really making a push now, flooding the maze, of course there are still over 100 left. Dec. The undead have stopped the push and are scattered across the surface. Going to try and seal the entrance again and make repairs. Maze sealed. Standing down from alert status and making repairs to traps.

Year 255
Spring
There is as single pike dwarf in the maze, killed several civilians and is now slowly killing the military becuase the ar ecoming at him one by one. Lost 4 before they deciced to work in concert. With no way in at all the undead leave. 13 new migrants! Assigning 10 dwarves to full time solidering, despite the lack of numbenrs (40).
Summer
Cleanup mostly done returned to normal operations. Revising the maze. The dead are back. Did not compelte upgrades. New hall smasher and cat lure not done. Was revising the path to avoid the trade depot but didnt finish. Did get the drop pits added to new pressure plates and weapon traps rebuilt. They brought nearly 200 and seem to be trying to brte force thier way in with numbers. lost one solider who decided to try and pick up undead trash rather than our good steel stuff. Running short on logs which means we will run short on fuel soon. Reclaimed the surface works. there are still some 180 undead outside the walls be we seem secure. looks like another push is coming.
Fall
Down to 160 undead. Work continues to dig deeper in search of the caverns. Dropped to 147, missed a lot of undead destruction. Fpund more flux. Sent a single crossbowman to the walls to try and provoke the undead. he got a single marksdwarf corpse onto the wall and killed the corssbowman.

Year 256
Spring
The dead still control the surface. They seem to have no interest in coming in after us. Switched the always on military to doing other tasks. There are several holes in the roof of the maze letting undead in to kill our workers. Abadoning the maze. More and more stange moods and unable to fullfil the needs are taking its toll. As well induviduals getting stressed. Down to 28 functional. Still under siege. Abandoning the surface. Every so often one gets in somehow and messes with the workers. Its not worth the losses. Sealing ourselves back in.

We are falling apart. About have the dwarves are exhibitng massive signs of stress. Giving everyone a holiday.
Summer
Asigning everyone to detailng for a while. The undead left with the start of summer. 9 welcome migrants. Lots of the old dwarves are running across the surface like mad men for no reason.
Fall
Caravan came. And after marking everything they vanished. More migrants. there are undead still around. They attacked the caravan.
Winter
Replaced the bait turkey, added a pit infornt of it and a better smasher.

Year 257
Spring
They are back again. Just going to turtle maybe they will go away. Building some dedicated temples. Assigned everyone but the miner to a squad. Will arm and train everyone.
Summer
Still some holes in the roof of the maze. Let three cropses out of the pit to try and liven up the lives of the problem children. Thy slew 16 dwarves before they were stopped. We are down to 16 functionals, until the stress hits, and now they all decide to pick up equipment.
Fall
One unhappy dwarf survived the last debacle. Put him in a squad with no uniform and set to bone carving only. so all he has done is pickup equipment for a month. Decided to execute him. Just have to get him to move somewhere it will happen.

Spring
The undead left. Dont really care. 21 migrants. New arrivals found the caverns for us, and the old embark
Summer
Digging a well to the cavern. Having to build a bridge across the waer there to reach the old embark. Undead showed up, but then left, apparently passing through. Built two ner butcheries to handle the exploding polts and grazers. 11 more migrants. FPS is down to 17 because of animal explosions, making some of the migrants only butchers. A werezebra, right at the gates.

  • T-p Kon, T Oro, CR-p kon, fb-p kul. Got all four infected locked up. Part of the problem is we have reindeer, sheep and alpacas. Eliminating the reindeer herd. All four potentials were infected as werezebra.

    Going to get an artifact ut of one of the infected before execution. He makes a useless loincloth. Going to execute him for that.
    Winter
    Things are gong well, plenty of dwarves, everything cleaned up. Undead should show up soon.

    Year 259
    Spring
    Had a dwarf die of old age, nothing more. Elimiantd two were zebra. 18 more migrants. Bak up to 69 dwarves. Game crash. Reworked all custom professions. Outr first FB. Ulu Osonnguslu. an enormous eyeless panther. It has a spiral shell (as a panther?) is is emaciated. Long shaggy carlet hair and poisonous gas. Trying the new system. Configning all civilians (6) to the panic room where all the levers are. Rushing all 63 others to the defense post. And the Fb went away.
    Summer
    What a surpsie the undead are back. They seem to be passing through also. Fb is back. Crashed again. A Cyclops showed up, rushed with dozens of dwarves, only loss was a civilian.
    Fall
    Executed two werezebra (Again). Undead are back.

    Year 260
    Spring
    Sorting out failing jobs. Lost dimple cup supply somehow. Reorganizing farm. Set up a permanent patrol of the caverns. Farmer's workshops are hording buckets. Picked some dimple cups from the floor and are back in business with them.
    Summer
    Very soon going to run out of limonite to smelt. Need to make a lot more mail shirts.
    Fall
    Undead are still on the surface. Wont be a caravan. Ran out of flux. Diginng to find more iron ore. Found more ore. Probobly not enough. Oh hey that B is still down there, apparently cant get to us. The undead left.
    Winter
    Started tearig down the weapon traps in the maze. A Roc has come. Apparently we havent removed enough. They tear the roc up so it stops moving. It starts again but its spraying blood. The next trap does it so much damage it dies. 12/15 in celebration of the death of the roc giving eveyone some time off.Leave it that way for 15 days. Most dwarves take the time to induvidual train.

    Year 261
    Spring
    They are back again. And another FB Snodub Zolak Tongmul, a bronze quadreped, deadly spittle. It went away. Revising the maze so a series of 8 10 long pit traps are first then the weapon traps. The plan is to sucker as many undead into the maze, drop thm all and eliminate them all at once before they get chewed up. There is one dwarf outside the walls, and the undead are ignoreing her, of course she is now starving. Got her inside, they undead show no interest in going through the maze.

    Snodub omoatkust Zolak Tongmul found its way into the fort finally. Only took to dwarves to take it down, Vabokmeng and Zonbekar. Commisioned a satues where Vabokmeng is striking down the FB while Zonbekar stikes a triumphant pose. Calling it the Barricade of Hammerers. Relocating the stoneworks so there is room for residences near it. Trying to burrow workers. The millstone stopped for the first time in years. Another Roc. The undead are still up there. They kill it with minimal losses.

    Another FB. Sedme Omusthongul Sedmekul. A slug with spittle. Sending some problem childern to kill it. Lost a miner who was roaming randomly around the caverns to it. Cant find a path to it to kill it. Found out how to get the the FB. Ran out of flux again.

    Couple of dwarves killed the FB o nregular patrol.

    Spring
    The world has passed into the Second age of Legends. The dead went away, didnt notice. Migrants came too? No a kid just grew up. Feb 15, declared a yearly 15 day holiday. Followed by a preiod of only building.
    Summer
    Back to normal. Promoted from jewelers and farmers. New massive drop pit almost done.
    Fall
    Reached the second cavern. New pit traps done.
    Winter
    Cut down the numnber of hoods from 6 to 2 and mail shirts from 2 to 1 that the military wears because we just aren't able to keep up the production. 12/15 going on a 15 day holiday. Saw several adult dwarves play. For the last 3 days declaring a party and restricting everyone to the panic room

    Spring
    The time off really helped the equipment inventory. Lots of dwarves picked up stuff they needed. Italso exposed that we are woefully short on gauntlets, greaves and boots. Vaction caused us to be flooded with poults. Putting the extra two butcheries back in service. Ran out of limonte ore, there is more they just have to collect it, once the menails are done slaughitng 68 turkey will get most of them to move stone. Yea, ran out of flux too.
    Summer
    down to less than 30 poults. The undead are back. We are well prepared. And they aren't they were just passing through. Totally reorganized the clothworks
    Fall
    Only one kitten alive out of all the cats. Starting to see vermin.
    Winter
    Winter holiday. This years party will be in the tavern.

    Spring
    The dead are back. They are so bad at this. Left the main gate open, they took their sweet tie coming closer. Stationed a squad on the walls and then outside and still no real movement from them. We aren't going to fight 190 of them but they seem content to hang out on the northside.
    Summer
    The undead just seem uninterested in coming to get us. Sent an expedition through the maze and hung out on the surface for a while. No reaction. Stopped requiring plant material for clothing of soliders, there is now a rush on other stuff. A FB Mishos Zagstoknuglush, a humanoid composed of salt. 4 horns but nothing special. Its gonna die as soon as we can get to it. Fb went away. Found more limonite.
    Fall
    Undead are still with us. Micromanaging clothing proudction. A Werehedghog? How did it get past the undead? And better yet into the maze. Tired of waitng. Opened the main gate and put the A team in the trade depot to wait for invaders. Anothe FB Lotheye Rufithigife a featherd mole with noxious secretions. Locking the main gate while we deal with it. It took two dwarves to take it down.

    One undead came in the main gate Lost one marksdwarf to it. Winter holiday time.
