Chronicles

Year 240
Winter
Embarked right next to a lava pool, exposed on the surface. Pool is about halfway up a mountain side that continues to rise southeastward. A decent sized flat area is right here. Thinking wall it in, lava moat then lava moat it.

Year 241
Spring
Everything is inside. Farms are started. Started building walls to contain the lava. Its going to take a lot of obsidian. Found tetrahedrite in the upper layers. Just need flux to go with the hematite and we are set. Stoneworks, woodworks, bedrooms, and still up.
Summer
The Cathedral of Ancients, a non-denominational temple is up. Going to try and use a centralized storage for food/drink/butchers. Migrants. Started on the forgeworks. Going to drop magma into a pool for use.
Fall
Need to work on defenses. 5 more migrants. Doctrine of starvation wants a temple. Found copper. Started decorating furniture.Temple is recognized. Opened the lava floodgates. A stone shot to the top and got stuck in one of the gates. Thankfully able to dislodge it by reopening the other gates
Winter
A macaque stole a war hammer. Going to war with the monkeys. More migrants. Will arm them and send them monkey hunting. Taupe fellowship wants a temple. 22 migrants. An artifact animal trap, just what we needed. Started making iron weapons.

Year 242
Spring
The undead are here. Defenses aren't done they will come in over the top for sure. Got everyone and thing inside. Flooded the partial moat with magma. There was an intruder, but doesn't look like he raised anything inside. Bad missed a hole in the wall. Flooding the courtyard with lava, it will hit the windmill and the millstone. Also spewing out across the countryside. One of the floodgates wont close. Going to flood the whole map with magma. And we are out of drink and no water source. Sending the miners down in search of water. Found the marble we need for flux. Found the caverns and water. Immediately built a well next to the stair over the water. Got the well built. Only lost 3 do dehydration. Now to stop the starvation since the farmer was one of those lost. Slaughtered the yaks for food, we aren't going to the surface anytime soon and they will starve. But hey we can start making steel soon.
Summer
The surface is devastated. Fires everywhere. Lava flows down the side of the mountain, and undead. There are 37 left. The plan is to fully arm up with steel, open a passage to the surface and eliminate the undead. Then rule over our blighted terrain. First to extend the well shaft and and a mine cart route to get the marble and water up. Minecart is getting stuck at the bottom ramps but otherwise working fine.
Fall
Still under siege wont be any caravans. Hit a snag with the steel, no carbon source unless I cut down trees in the caverns. Securing an area of the caverns.

Year 243
Spring
Its hard to notice seasons pass when underground. Missed winter. Poults hatched. lost a mason he was climbing the minecart art shaft and hot hit with the cart. Building a large ceiling collapsing section coming from the caverns. Adding sweet pod to the menu. Ran out of hemetite and iron.
Summer
The siege was lifted and we didn't even notice. Migrants! Using the postern gate we were building to accept them. Cant use the original entrance, blocked by magma. Another animal trap artifact. Constructed a new entrance. Will continue to use the postern in an emergency but the new one allows caravans in o the old depot.
Fall
A caravan came, and more migrants. Trying to dislodge the stone in the floodgate, not working. Missed trading, got everything there but forgot to actually trade. Got the gates closed. used autodump to remove the rock. Now just have to wait for the magma to subside.
Winter
Monster hunters in the caverns discovered the magma sea, and adamantine. Farmers want a guildhall No one will build coffins, no one will work the forges.

Year 244
Spring
More migrants. Don't really want them want who we have to work. Forgot about the farms guild. Taupe fellowship wants a temple c0complex. Already have it done. Still need to do the farmers.
Summer
More migrants. Up to 69. No one was working because the manager wouldn't do his job. Fired and replaced. Going to replace some of the military with new arrivals who are better skilled. Moving the grazers back outside. Including some captured elk birds. Craftdwarves want a guild. Built the mayor a suite. Designing yet another entrance (this fort has more holes than swiss cheese). A long tunnel under the moat, from which lava will drop followed by a weaving 3wide trap hall. The entire thing should allow caravans in and keep enemies out.
Fall
The undead are back. Newest entrance isn't done. Will test the others. There is over 115 of them, they are serious. Defenses are fine, they aren't getting in but we also cant kill them effectively yet. Let in 3, almost 3 times that dwarves in the hospital and 3 dead. Not a good return. Pit traps not ready.
Winter
Work on lava tunnel moves forward. Dig done, building the lava drop. Almost done with the lava trap and postern. FB Siga has come a humanoid composed of vomit and deadly spittle. Just closing off the caverns for now. Military is better armed, shields, gauntlets, greaves now for everyone. Postern smasher done. one weapon trap remaining there and the final gate. Dwarves aren't digging up ramps to moat.

Year 245
Spring
Opening the postern. Need to rework postern so there is a trap animal behind glass to keep them moving forward, but other than slow it working fine taking them all out. Two got past, down to 25 total including some to be smashed.
Summer
Undead continue to feed into the smasher. Down to less than a dozen. Out of logs. Need to take care of the FB to get more. I think 30 dwarves can take it more than nth dozen undead. Of course its busy chasing fish and wont come after us. Its in the water so cant go get it. FB found its way out. Fb dead. Good timing, one undead made it past the postern traps. 3 undead left. Rushed the last three had some problems as one was standing on the pressure plate but they died. Now for the cleanup. Its not as bad s i feared. Tore down a wall to speed things up. Will replace it with a gate.
Fall
Ended the siege just in time for fall. Hopefully we can trade this year. The caravan is here! Opened a library. Out of hematite again. More migrants, just as we were making proper bedrooms for the past set. Miners just wont dig up to the moat. Thinking of draining it, fixing the dumps and some pocket and adding flood gates for later to dump magma on enemies near the walls. A were buffalo. dwarves are scattered all over the map collecting wood. 6 dead, 2 possibly infected. Worse than the FB. Make that 7 one died going to the hospital

Time to build a hall of victories starting with 3 statues, one of the undead, one of the FB and one of the werebuffalo.
Winter
Both candidates turned into werebuffalo. They fought and one died. Going to keep the other contained and test the lava trap on him. Another werebuffalo. Killed three and ran off.

Year 246
Spring
Moat drained and updates being made. Three werezebra snuck in and started slaughtering dwarves in the tavern. It started with a visiting lt. necromancer. Oh no they are fell zebra zombies. This is going to take forever to sort out.

Uthra Zostrasorus Belrok, a Werezebra spearman necromancer started raising body parts. Then transformed. Not sure where the body parts came from. Tavern closed , no more visitors. Looks like a fight started. Then the necromancer bit a woodcutter. He was eventually attacked an killed by the stuff he raised.
Summer
more migrants. Starvation wants a temple complex., two statues will suffice. almost ready to refill the moat.
Fall
2 caravans in a row. Opening the moat floodgates again. Magma spillover. Lava drop works. No more werebuffalo. A FB has come. Egnun a huge one eyed scorpion of course it has a sting. Scorpion died easily. Raising the wall near the lava waterfall to stop the splashing. The yaks went berserk
Winter
The caravan got wiped out by the magma splash, left all the goods. Melting the crap out of caravan and undead items. Refilling the moat, hopefully with no splash. Figured out the lava problem. It comes down faster than it flows though the moat so it eventually builds up at the waterfall end higher than the walls before it has reached the far side. Turning it off for a while to level out.

Year 247
Spring
Artifact theft has started. Established a jail. Ipiz Oculbora Sastusu an huge one-eyed sparrow with deadly blood. Since its going to fly over the cavern defenses anyway might as well meet it head on. Good thing, it went right past the defenders and into the paths to the main fort. Caught it partway up. No losses except a cat.
Summer
The destruction of the caravan gave us back all the crappy clothing we traded them. This time its going to the lava. Found a huge vein of tetrahedrite.
Fall
Caravan came, will try not to burn this one down. Added more jail space to make the captain happier, not that we have a single prisoner but clearly we need 7 cells. I think the caravan came in though the lava tube, no other way in. I don't really need anything seeing a the goods from the last caravan are here. Maybe some more dogs, running low. They did go out the lava tube. Time to remove the other entrances. Somehow caused a collapse by removing some of the surface walls. wrecked all the farm stockpiles. Including the seed stockpiles, and all the way down into the clothing area. Lost Dwarves, workshops, stockpiles. More stuff collapsing, not sure why there is nothing above.
Winter
Got the outside hole sealed and will work on the inside ones next. the undead are back. They are going to get the lava treatment. game crashed. They brought nearly 200 this time. Five of them got to the inside and are devastating the military. Reduced to 6. Got all the gates closed, will lose the animals. Military eliminated doing mass conscription of everyone else. Need to kill the 3 inside, and an Eye of Praiereings that got in. We are done for. Left an mine shaft open and they are pouring in behind us its all over. Not that it matters the couple of ruined zombies could do the job alone.

There was really no excuse for losing this one. Had more than a year of quiet and didn't make sure all the gates were levered. Also opened that mine shaft to get some gems and never sealed it back up. It is kind of ridiculous that 3-4 zombies can take out 30 heavily armored dwarves. Really wish I had gotten up to steel but the lack of carbon stopped it in the beginning and never got back to it.
