Ransackedhammers "Vudtharnil"

Looked for a 4x4 with Haunted, no thralling rain, iron, flux, coal. Found a site with Flux, Iron, Gold, Silver, Copper, Nickel, Zinc, Lead, Bismth, marble and coal. Haunted on Se portion of map. Far to the east of the previous several forts which were on that inland sea.

Year 223
Summer
Deposited the wagon just ouside the blighted area. Will need to avoid that by digging primarly N and East. No apparent aquifer down to 6 levels and in stone. Will dig down 2 levels in clay and over away from the blight then establish the fort there and build a new entrance later.
The dry season
Merchants arrived, way to early. 7 migrants all previously nicknamed. Woodworks, farms, brewery, stoneworks, all functional. Started work on citidel. And butchery.
Winter
Missing a thrall. Keep running out of stone.

Year 224
Spring
Struk sphalerite on level 131-129. 19 migrants. We only built 16 extra beds so far this is ridiculous. Struck Gold Induvidual stocks feeding kitchen does not seem to work. Workers wont fill the stocks.
Summer
Citedel finshed. Just need crosbowmen and bolts. 8 more migrants. No threats. Woodworkers want a guild
Dry Season
Outer walls almost done. Outer walls done. 7 more migrants. Mine cart shaft from gold alost done. Had two dwarves go insane over moods. Didnt even check them to see what they wantyed.
Winter
Undead have arrived. Alerted eveyone, and there are no undead. did show a hole in the defnes every one went under a wall. Reached the caverns and a magma pool! First artifact is a door. Will use it one the Temple. Discovered a magma sea. Started magma forge and smelter. Of course I've been moving the gold up not down. Still hvent found any other valuable metal. Need a well from the caverns. Stonewokers wanta guild.

Year 225
Spring
20 more migrants. Tavern is up in one bastion of the surface works.
Summer
Minecart is working excpet the return now. It stopping at the bottom. Tavern is overflowing. Captured a tiger. The minecart route is 100% working, lower stockpile emptied. Last step was a ramp at the bottom to keep it oving onto the first stop again.
Fall
Got all goods to the depot in record time by prestaging and seting to auto trade. Trading a number of dingos we caught. Got anvils for the magma works and some weapons. Lost another dwarf to a mood. No idea what it is this idiots want. Demonination of Covering wants a temple.
Winter
Temple finished in minutes. started exploratory digs to find more materials. Not growing pigails like I want. REally lacking on weapons and armor. Started digging another mincart shaft to get gold to the magma forges.

Year 226
Spring
Undead have returned, and just passed by to mess with us. Improved the defenses. About halfway done when a glacier titan came, who will by pass all the traps... Unes, a towering six-legged lizard composed of green glass, it webs. Closed the gate and the Titan went after some sloths but is still out there. So 23 migrants showed up, expect them all to die a Titan death. We dont have much choice. Will put the military at the gate and open it. Glacier Titan just slaughters our infantry. Not even sure the got to swing on it. It goes into the taven and camps were we cant shoot it. Actually the reaosn we cant shoot it is because no one has a quiver and so no bolts. Odered some up. It got free reign of the surface of the fort. We still control the walls and towers and interior.

Urist has a plan.Take the entrance hallway, make it loner with a diversion tunnel and set it up so we can collapse the tunnel on the FB.
Summer
almost ready to open let the FB in, human carvan shows up, this will be fun, or not. The merchants arrived and the FB stayed in the Tavern. It came out and wrecked te merchants. Trap wont work. bottom is too wide. Yup missed it. Titan returnd tothe surface. Going to try again.

Meanwhile down in the caverns Rafovi Imerilomifo agreat scaly coyote with deadl spittle has arrived. I dont think it can get in.

More totally screws migrants. Migrants got the titan out of the surface fort. Closed tha main gate and started some clean up and recover the merchants stuff.
Fall
Just about ready to try again. Failed again. Nothing dropped. there should have been two layers of stone but there were only one. Titan left the fort again and got locked out. Destroyed the dwarven merchant caravan. setting up for a 3rd attempt. Mor slaughted migrants. Going to give up on killing the Fb for now and just trap it in a out of the way location. Technically we have magma, long term might flood it.
Winter
Running out of food becaue everyone is working in defenses no farming. Ok last time. Have a path with pit on either side. Support in path with wall above to fall o nvictim. Bridges seal area off and keep victim on elevated path. All that work and it looks like the dwarven carvan crippled the FB. Its stuck and wont move being attacked by a pangolin. Nope not stuck. Sent the crossbowmen out to finish it off and its not immobile. It jsut seriously wants to be innefctive vs this pangolin and wnt back to kickinig it after killing two dwarves.

Year 227
Spring
FB is still fighting the pangolin. Another undead alert, which is jsut them crossing the edge of the map. Saw some ghouls this time. They are seriously cleaning blood from the forest floor way outside the fort. Migrants contine to pour in. 21 this time that might make it past the FB, its till with the pangolin. Fully dug a new shaft from the magma to the first fort level.
Summer
Migrants keep coming, FB still fighitng. Back to 92 dwarves which is about where we were before the disaster. Working out kinks in new mine cart shaft.
Fall
Unded again. This time they came to stay in vast numbers. Undead are getting on the walls in numbers, not sure how. It requires crossing the dry ditch the clmibing the wall and overhanging fortification. One did it again past a closed gate, its like they are teleporting. They are jumping into the ditch and just scaling the walls like they aren't even there. Secured off access from the towers the scaled. Will try and let a few in andpit trap them. Most of them are ignoreing us and going for the forgotten beast still fighting the pangolin. Looks like the took the Glacier Titan out. He took about 30 of the with him down from over 100 to 79. Let half a dozen in. Two got past into the lower defenses. Closed them up and adding more traps. Opened the gate and let them all in.
Winter
Slowly whittling down the undead. Down to 46. Took a break to reset traps. Will add another pit smasher, it does very well. Adding a new refuse pile above the magma since we cant get to the one outside, or not cant put a stickpile over a bridge. Found adamantine! We will be able to make weapons. Forgotten beast in the caverns figured out how to look over the magma forges. New immediate problem. Or not he fell into the magma. There are three undead in the cealing drop pit, one managed to climb through the fortifications and we had to hunt it down. Lost the third manager during this fight. Making it hard to get work done. Opened the citedel so we could dump refuse. There is one ghoul o nthe walls. Forget it military wont show up and losing dwarf after dwarf to him.

Another FB. Uzun Osenust. A scaley jackel w poisonous sting. Wait isn't this the guy who died in the lava? No that was a coyote.

Year 228
Spring
1.3 fams aremt working. Added an new 1x7 for plum helments and pigtials. Opening the gates again. There are 6 free undead lef. They made it to the inner gate. Non-soliders cant get below to pull the lever. Making a last stand at the gate. They are breaking through, down to 1 citizens, only 2 combatants. A frire has been started in the first room. Cant see what is going on. A lone cheesmaker is the last effective to hold out. He is guarding one of the kids. there are three moody dwarves out there but its over. The fires came from magma crabs loose in the fort. We are attacked from 2 ways by three foes. Even now it wont end. A hauler is trapped in a cage at the entrance and watches while the undead hunt down the animals. The last stands a preformer who hid in an office til he was starving and had to come out and a guy who took over the magma forge in a mood, evntually he goes into a berserk rage and runs right into the udead. In the end it was 5 undead that got inside that ended it, since we never really ahad wepons and armor.

  • Lessons: Use quickfort for mine cart digs.
  • Linking all the stocks/workshops seems to work pretty well as long as ou dont forget ones.
  • 1x3 farm setup doesnt work. Always seem to be on the verge of running out of food and pigtails. Never saw dimpple cups.
  • Check the embark better. This location only had nickel (never found), gold and zinc. No iron.
  • Pit traps are the bomb. Use them.
  • Multiple undead and my own forces climbed between a wall and an overhanging wall.
  • One grim reaper guy sailed past all the traps like they were not there. Pretty sure he was trap voided
