Arelokab, "Waterbreak"

Owner: Dorenarzes "Diamondknights"
Parent Civ: Turquoise Trammels
Region: Forest of Saffron

The dwarves of the Turquoise Trammels continue to make attempts on the Forest of Saffron. After the failure of Frostyrack they decided they needed practice with aquifers. They picked a spot at a river junction with plenty of soil and deep resources but calm surroundings, and an aquifer.

The fort will be named Arelokab "Waterbreak" and settled by the group Dorenarzes "Diamondknights"

Chronicles

Year 263
Embark places us on the south side of the river junction. Since its supposed to be safe we will cut a few trees, bridge the canyon and relocate to the peninsula between the two rivers before digging. There is a sinister area to the west we do want to get away from, putting the river between us and it should be enough.

The northern stream terminates in a waterfall where the stream join. Its on the wrong side to be useful right now.

Crossed the canyon over the southern stream. Initial dig shows a layer of sand and a loamy layer before the aquifer.

Summer
Peninsula has been walled off. River bridge connected to a lever so it can be raised. Most of the goods have been moved inside. The parts for a wooden screw pump have been made and farms started.

Just before starting to dig the aquifer we did a test dig to the north outside the wall. It went down 15 levels into stone with no aquifer contact. During the exploration found coal, marble, and tetrahedrite. So digging through the aquifer is entirely pointless. We decide to build a tavern and a tower above the site and a connecting tunnel through the loamy layer.

6 Migrants arrived. A miner drowns during aquifer dig operations.

Autumn
Secured the first aquifer layer and working on the second/last. More migrants have arrived.

The rivers froze over in an early cold snap. Picked an unused spot and going to initiate an attempt to break through the aquifer using the freezing method, double slit operations put on hold.

Freezing dig reached the stone layer but the initial dig was not wide enough to secure it properly. Lost another digger but should get him and his pick back next winter when we can dig him out of the ice.

The Year 264

Spring
Miners return back to the double slit works. Someone forgot to tell the pumper we took a break, he pumped all winter for no reason. Great arms muscles now.

More migrants have arrived, 20 of them. Guess they heard about the iron ore we discovered.

Summer

The influx of migrants caused us to reevaluate operations. The small 2 layer setup isn't enough to support over 30 dwarves. Start digging a proper fort at the northern exploration site. it took almost all spring to build a real fortress.Dug bedrooms, started coke production, also cutting gems and giving dwarves jobs.

Started smelting iron ore. Forged 3 picks to speed the digging and compensate for those that were lost.

More migrants arrive.

Autumn
Pig iron production started. Digging through the aquifer has been ignored.

Winter
Bedrooms mostly done. only 6 dwarves without a bed. Expanded the wall to cover the tavern and the new entrance. Moved the animals north. Completed 2 citadels.

Our first attack. Half a dozen rhesus macaque corpses came from the east. We stopped them at the river.

Year 265
Spring
Aquifer tapping still progress, slowly. Outfitted military with STEEL mail shirts. More migrants. 18 of them. Summer
Finished, supposedly the aquifer dig just before summer. Waiting for it to dry. Captured and trained some badgers, one had cubs. Put them in the grave room. We have successfully dug though the aquifer, so not worth time More migrants.

Autumn
Reorganized the metalworks. Built Quantum stockpiles. Built a second smelter. Getting the military into shape. Moved the river bridge so caravans could get out. Stopped so much fishing, raw fish are pilling up faster than they can be processed. Traded the excess fish to the caravan. Reorganized the entire surface. Realized we don't have a kitchen. Building one. Returning everyone to fishing since thats what the merchants want next year. 7 more migrants. We also don't have a hospital, and never finished the well.

Winter
Almost everything in in QS. Lots of extra bed rooms now. Much more efficient running. Steel bar production is on automatic.New kitchens done. We have a shortage of brew able plants, plenty of fruit however. Waiting for the river to freeze to connect it to the well.

Well is dug an beginning to fill. Noticed one of the wall pieces is not finished and the lower stairs are flooding. Closed flood gate and completed the wall. Just as a Forest titan arrives. Lulo Eriyaavafi Famime Nemo, an enormous eyeless serpent. It rushes the river gate before it cane be closed. Heroicly one of our farmers attacks it alone with his war hammer. He is joined by another, unarmed farmer who promptly gets killed, after having his feet ripped off. The others start to join in. At five on one the Titan isn't doing so well. It keeps missing, and only the farmer who died got hit with its stinger. The Miners are still digging while the battle rages, good dwarves. Our heroic farmer has his rib jammed through his lung... and the titan is slain.

A steel statue is commissioned. "Serpent of Forests".

Year 266
Spring
Dinner is forest titan meat!

A goblin forces arrives, bolstered by traitor dwarves. The slaughter the guests in the tavern, but lose a few. We let the marksdwarves hoot at them a while from the tower, then rush them. Enemy defeated. 3 dwarves lost. We captured 2.

Back to normal operations. Fill the well. what water was in it has evaporated by now.

One of the jewelers made a legendary blue garnet barrel.

More migrants have arrived. 18 of them.

Summer
Getting the military to actually wear their gear is a problem.

Mayor demanded statues. Built 3 silver ones, one of the group symbol, one of the civilization symbol, one of The Turquoise of Trammels itself.

Designated for new bedrooms, and migrants arrived soon after. We found the caverns. An at a good spot, only passing though one level and easy to wall off. One troglodyte got in before we got the last wall up, but it was delt with.

Autumn
Steel Tomes are 90% steel now. Forced replace clothing in all dwarves. Copper Keas are not as close in leather but better than before. Both units are permanently soldiering now. A badger sow corpse outside the fort. sent the military out to get it. Relocating everything to level 3 and consolidating. Its raining pungent goo. Winter
Expanded hospital. Game crashed. Retired on reload.
