Layout and Status

The Year 300
Spring
The settlers of the Narrow Corridor arrived at a snow covered land. There is supposed to be a creek here but can't even find it for the snow. We are on the edge of a sinister tundra (The Slitted Tundra) but still in a taiga area heavily covered with bayberry trees. There is a single low plateau in the south, and a smaller one to the north. Both are flat as is the rest of the terrain. In the distance we can see the Feral Barbs Mountains where the rest of the civilization is. There are ice wolves in the east already that make us nervous. We dig into the cliff face to get underground.quickly

Summer
Digging goes well. Since the surface of the plateau is only one level up and flat we decided to move the entrance there and wall it in. The cliff face entrance is sealed up. Wooden walls on surface are done. Lots of goods are still outside. The animals are inside, yak and camel slaughtered. Farms have planted. Sand on top followed by a layer of peat then obsidian, many layers of it.

Autumn
Migrants arrived. Over summer we found the creek, but it never unfroze. There are plenty of berries to pick. No attacks so far.

Winter
The outpost liaison and merchants came. Sold some gems, obsidian and wood. A haunting murk from the tundra to the east sowed up but it disappeared without issue. The Windmill and millstone up and running. Discovered the caverns shortly before winter stated. The lower level of the caverns are mostly flooded. Started building a well.

The Year 301
Spring
Well is almost done. Started making dye from blade root (green). Need a chain to finish the well but no metal industry so far.

301-02-05: The Forgotten Beast Kashi Atacpamnot "Kashi Hatevault" appears in the caverns. A towering humanoid composed of flame. It has large mandibles and it undulates rhythmically. There isn't anyway for it to get to us our only connection to the caverns is the well intake full of water and isolated from any dry land. It wanders around then seems to vanish. Parts of the cavern start collapsing however. It found its way underwater to the well intake. Destroyed the bridge but seems to have stopped at the floodgate. The rock around it is show as hot. We will drop the ceiling on it.

301-02-05: Beast went chasing some pond grabbers and managed to shut the emergency bridge. Going to prepare the ceiling collapse anyway.

Summer
The Forgotten beast is still out there in the caverns but no longer camping our floodgate. Build several querns for dye and milling surface plants. Will start beekeeping

The Year 302
Spring
Missed Autumn and Winter. No liaison showed up. It was a mild winter. Rebuilt the entire outer wail as stone. Put up a 3 story citadel over the main entrance. Got cloth making started. Found a second set of caverns. Came close to running out of booze but good now. Started making mugs and instruments. Poults hatched so there will be meat and eggs. enlarged the upper walls. Created a pasture area underground but haven't moved the llamas yet, waiting for fungus growth.

Summer
Almost lost a dwarf. He fell while trying to seal off the lower caverns. Rescue mission opened the caverns more and working on closing them up. Started building out towers to defend the plateau. Started digging rear stair to more isolate the farms levels from the entrance.

302-04-01: The Ticks of Drumming a goblin group attacked The Narrow Corridor of The Fenced Relic at Machinefortresses. The goblin Estrur Utterhates led the attack. 3 showed up, 2 left. The Ice Wolves went out and killed it. Lost one. We need armor.

The rest of 302 was recorded but Urist spilled coffee on it.

The Year 303
Summer
Outer walls are up to 2 levels, carving fortifications. Paved the back of the fort, trees were breaking into the upper level. Finished expanding and refilling the well reservoir. Still no chain so no well. Self filling well pressure plate did not work. In fact it reopened after manually closing since it was at 7 so maybe it will work once the water is down and remain 5-6. Experiencing a turkeyplosion, which is ok since we need leather for armor. Crops are withering, no one is picking, but we have plenty. The private temple to Tosid (Female god of fortresses, war, chaos, wealth and trade) is open but still waiting on the statue. Noticing more wild life, reindeer, musk ox, bear, and occasionally have racoon problems. Need traps and hunting but not enough bolts to waste on surface creatures right now.

A pigeon arrived and told us we are at war with the Goblins from the Ticks of Drumming civ. Thanks guys, we noticed with that siege and all. Does this explain why we are getting no caravans or migrants?

Also found out that forgotten beast up there died somewhere out in the caverns killed by a Giant Cave Toad "Shamedtones" Had a sit down with the miners. We are at war. We have no armor. We are getting no caravans. Where is the metal? Signs are not good. No migrations again. Built a tavern. Immediately attracted visitors, even before the roof and furniture were ready. Moved the useless depot.

Autumn
303-07-03 Another siege. 6 of them this time. Our smith hopped the walls and attacked a goblin near them. They got him. One of the miners is stuck in the tavern but the goblins are ignoring him. Built a lot of traps at the entrance. successfully got the miner back inside, killed a goblin and got the gate closed back up. The remaining 3 goblins are huddled far away.

Winter
Still under siege. Work is progressing on improving the entrance. Going to let the goblins in by spring and slaughter them. Moved the animals underground. Have assigned most the Ice Wolves war dogs.

303-12-10: Forgotten beat Mutho Inoomos Sut Bura, an eyeless toad in the upper caverns. It wandered off not giving us any problems. Still under siege but soon will take care of the goblins

Murk on the tundra. The siege is lifted the goblins gave up just when we were about to invite them in.

The Year 304

Spring
Back to work on the tavern roof. Initiated a better training schedule for the militia. Redesigning the entrance for better protection in the next siege.

Summer
Tavern 2nd floor is built and roofed. Need to add interior walls, beds and doors.

Autumn
The Tummy of the Griffins is now open. 3 bedrooms (one with double beds). Continue to have problems with open space to the 1st level. Paving everything. Marksdwarves are practicing. We hit the third caverns and found Adamantine! Praise Tosid! An Elf lasher vampire is visiting. This can't be good.

Winter
Working the lower caverns is slow. Constant defense against various creatures is required. Just getting down there takes forever. Nonshutthak the Cave dragon showed up at the lower caverns. Killed 10 before moving on. We are down to 9. At least we got some of the Adamantine.

    With our leader one of the dead we chose a new one: Ducimlathon of the StoneUnion. Rather than talk of potentially abandoning the site he is adamant we will remain, prosper and retake the caverns. The plan is to strategicly withdraw to the upper caverns, process the Adamantine, forge a Adamantine statue of Tosid (we never did install the obsidian one), forge a chain for the well we never got going, and then axes, swords and armor. We will train extensively then slay Nonshutthak.

    10 minutes later the plan changed. It turns out it takes 9 bars of Adamantine to forge a statue. The new order is just to encrust the old one with gems and install it.

    Year 305

    Spring
    Digging a metal working site at the level where we stored the Adamantine. Gold! Level 132 just above the deep caverns.

    Summer
    Stand extraction has started. Its slow. Metal workshops built but no fuel. With only 9 dwarves work everyone has so many jobs. Put up a number of cages and stone traps between the dangerous caverns and upper areas

    305-05-09 a Forgotten beast. Nguslu Ezuspstasno Gozruestrur. An ash blob. It went right past all the defenses. We killed it however before it could touch our Adamantine.

    Autumn
    305-07-01 another siege. At least one makes it inside but we kill him. There is another in a cage trap outside the gate.

    Winter
    The metalworks is fully running. Looks like the Adamantine threads are extracted. Gold is being brought up from the lower caverns. Built carpentry and ashey down there too, our surface lye is frozen and cant make soap. siege is still ongoing but we ignore it.

    Year 306

    Spring
    Siege ended. We never noticed, the goblins should post a note on the gate or something when they leave. Forging is about to started The first item off the forge was a gold statue. Then a chain. This was to give our weaver some experience before messing up the Adamantine. We order 3 Adamantine axes and 5 short swords. We have a well! and an Axe! Oh and we open the gate. We need more metal for armor

    Summer
    We are having a thrall session. Everyone move and cleans. After a month everyone goes back to work. Gold flasks for a job well done.

    306-05-10. Forgotten beast Kosmza Turusnos in the lower caverns. An enormous waxwing. We will meet it with Adamantine!

    Except we don't. It flies past our defenses before we are there and get slain in the residences. Two wounded. We captured a male and female raccoon, we will tame and breed them.

    Autumn
    Real Ice wolves menaced the tavern. We quickly removed the threat. Then they come back and kill our newly trained smith, Blockedlinked. We named the wolf Tubesick. Killed them all this time, including the one who got a name.

    Winter
    306-11-02 another forgotten beast in the upper caverns. Osman Irumusam Ostkul. Of steam. It runs away as we gather to oppose it.

    Getting anything done is a problem. We don't have enough dwarves to do all the jobs required mcu less add new tasks/industries. Fort is too spread out for the number of dwarves and training is recalling biting unto time. Going to consolidate some stuff: move the turkeys closer to the butchery for example. Reorganized some of the cavern facing defenses. Cage traps were getting filled with useless stuff, bugbats and having to be cleaned and reset. Would rather just kill this stuff with stone traps.

    We are still at war by the war. We did find out its called the Splatter War and we are winning generally. The reason no one told us we were at war was becuase we were the first attack in 302

    Lots more gold has been found. No migrants

    Things are going ok. Food is flowing. Getting the incursions from below under control with doors. Trying to clean up junk laying allover. Accepting mercenaries to fill out ranks. Crundles at the doors are killing FPS. Slew them No migrants again.

    Winter
    Walled off the mid caverns entirly. Too much crap getting caught in the traps and having to reload them. Another siege, which leaves almost immedialty, even before we can lock down. Someone harvested from the bees. Crundle incusion from the lowest caverns. About half a dozen. Sealing them off for now.

    Year 308

    Spring
    Everything is running more smoothly. Walling off the caverns is magical. Trying to fully relocate food production related things from level 1 to 2.

    One of the dwarves is dead. Think it was the goblin thief. Set up a schedule for at least one Merc to be on duty near the entrance, and one in the tower at all times. More dogs at the entrance.

    Summer
    Rebuilding some of the walls near the entrance as granite not sand. Down to two working farm plots (7x1) this will help the FoodGuilds work load Massive tree cutting effort in progress. Trees were encroahing on the fort, and need charcoal. We are down to 7 not including mercenaries and kids.

    The seige is back. Most of them pass by leaving only two. We will drive them from our lands. A troll destroyed a door at the metalworks. No idea where it came from everything below the door should be sealed. It might have climbed some walls in the lower caverns. Fixing that. Goblins killed/driven off.

    No migrants

    308-05-19. Forgotten beast Gembish Adagstelid Muved Shedim. A one eyed warthog:w! Well we figureed out how the troll got in. Forgotten beast took the same path. Again a FB rushed past all the defenses, didn't trigger the gate and we had to kill it. Built a butcher shop at the metalworks to deal with the bodies

    Anotehr troll from the lower caverns watched it climb into the stair. Traps got it,

    Autumn
    Butchering not keeping up with the poults hatching despite at least 3 dwarves involved. Building several closer butcher shops. Saw the metalworks gate close on a troglodyte, then reopen not usre what is going on. Someone is digging still below the lower caverns. Found warm stone. No migrants. The war continues. Something set off the pit trap at the entrance. Trapped a dwarf too, make us notice there is a tree growing in it, and misasma. Cleaning it out. Go th tree removed. Finding troglodyte remains no idea how they could have gotten to the surface entrance.

    Winter
    We found the magma sea, and more adamantine and gold. Our idiot miner fell in the lava.

    The Year 309
    Spring
    No migrants
    309-03-16 another FB. Egnum Lulostasno Ustrumut a skinless Crocodile in the mid caverns, It killed some troglodytes and left.

    Summer
    Disbanding the Snowy Terns (Marksdwraves). Can't dedicate 2 citizens to leading squads. The mercenary in the squad will be added to the Ice Wolves. The atom smasher was finished at some point. Its not much needed since we aren't making much.

    Autumn
    Turkeys mostly under control. 5 over pop not 34. Also elimated most the captured animals. The two Goblins are set to be tossed in the magma once someone takes them down there.

    Urist the idiots were filling the stone stockpile on the metalworks level with stone from dozens of levels down instead of doing real work, and doing it without wheelbarrows.

    Building a new adamantine operation just above the magma. Will do everything

    Winter
    Building the magaworks is almost done. Building gold minecarts becase we can (and have little choice)

    309-10-03 Goblins are back. Left the gate open. Three of them captured before they even got underground. The rest retreated and are hanging out. We will just close the gate and ignore them. Ice Wolves are needed to deal withthe magma crabs anyway. Adding the Magmaworks to the defened burrows of the Ice Wolves.

    The Year 310

    Spring
    Minecarts and wheelbarrows almost done. Thralls in magma area dont seem to get moving stone. They only have one labor. Goblins are still out there. The idiot who fell in the magma is hauting us. Its going to be a long time to engrave that slab. The goblins left again without telling us.

    Summer
    Strand extraction has started. The goblins are back again. Several captured, several fled. Once killed. We are running out of cages. Dedicated 2 dwarves to adamantine. One to extract strands and one to make wafers. Still digging but being careful

    Autumn
    An explosion of kittens. Pretty sure I locked the males away a while ago. Time to do it again. I did one male is still chained the other is roaming free. Guess someone goes to the butcher.

    Had to make more clothes. Everyone's is getting threadbare.

    Nothing happend of note.

    The Year 311

    Spring
    Winter passed making threads, and higher up weaving pig tail thread into cloth. More kittens. Soon will have to have a mass butcherfest. Edem came of age (12). Notrmally we wouldnt care but its another worker. Immediatly put him to work moving things.

    Insituting a new job rotational policy. Every season everyone is going to rotate jobs (and military service). Moved the training site for the Ice Wolves outdoors so everyone gets more sunlight. Thread extraction is done moveing to wafer creation (stopped having 2 workers)

    311-03-06 WTF is a huge feathered earthworm? Fluffed out no less. Spos Osmatstuxul is in the mid caverns. Who cares.

    Opening back up the forward stair paths. Waching dwarves take long route that are not needed since the enemy never gets that far anyway. Wafer making was done. That was pretty quick compared to the strands. Forging mailshirts out of wafers, looks like 7 mail shirts.

    Autumn
    Mass pit over the lava is built. Now to transfer te 6? Goblins all the way down. Apparently they dont like te goblins either. Making haste moving them down. Uncovered a lot more safe Adamantite and a lot of gold.

    Spring
    Goblins are back. Animals are completly under control. There is honeycomb to be processed. Had the bees, ignored them for years. Needed jugs to pres it apparently. The turkeys are loose. They are roaming the residence floor.

    Summer
    Paving upper levels. Don't like the extra fungus. Goblins are gone. Magma crabs came up and took out my metal worker who was also my leader and manger.

    The bard we allowed in a long time ago wants to be a full citizen. Work? Absolutely!

    How are we still having kittens. Male is chained down in the bowels. Females are all in the kitchens. Sent everyone plant gathering. We ran out of berries and cant brew. And no one goes out side to pick.
