Construction of a Dwarven Water Reactor
The water reactor can be constructd over an aquifer, river, cavern pool or even filled manually with water as a pond.
Materials Required
- 6 Logs: 2 Waterwheels
- 1+ Log: Axle
- 1 Block, 1 Corkscrew, 1 pipe section: Screw Pump
- 3 mechanims: Gear Assemblies
- 1 Millstone
- 1 Door
- 1 Hatch
- 3 mechansims Lever and attachment to hatch.
- Dig out one 4x8 room one level above the aquifer. This will be the waterwheel room. It should have a door and be otherwise enclosed to contain splash. The extra space is for splash and without it the system tends to shut down on its own. Place door at the entrance to this room.
- To one side of it dig out another room this will be the milling room. On the wall of the milling room next to the waterwheel room dig an upstair.
- In the waterwheel room channel out 5 squares as shown "h". Once dug channel out the two squares on the level below that aren't directly under the already channeled squares but next to them as shown. Do this quickly before the fill with water.
- On the level above the water wheel and milling rooms dig a down stair connecting to the upstair and the rest of a 2x3 room. This is the mechanism room.
- Dig 2 channels in the mechanism room. The channel to the waterwheel room needs to be where the center of one of the waterwheels will be but off to the side and not the side between the wheels). The other channel needs to be inline with that one but over the milling room.
- In the waterwheel room construct a Hatch over the lone channel and attach it to a lever (lever not shown). This is off switch for the system.
- In the waterwheel room construct a screw pump that pumps from the lone channel/hatch tile into the space between where the watersheels will be.
- In the waterwheel room construct 2 waterwheels over the channeled out tiles.
- In the waterwheel room construct a gear mechanism attached to the center of one of the waterwheels and below the channel from the room above.
- In the mechanism room construct 2 gear mechanisms over the channels.
- In the mechanism room construct a horizonatal axle connecting the two gear mechanisms.
- In the milling room construct the Millstone below the channel from the mechanism room.
- Open the hatch and manually start the screw pump once the water reached 5/7 depth.
